The art of weaving may not come naturally to some. I know for myself, I struggle with simple arts and crafts. Therefore, the idea of intertwining yarn together to make a pattern seems tedious. However, with the right instructions and a touch of confidence, you too can learn how to weave something as simple as your initials.
Step 1:
The materials are a necessity. You want to start with a frame loom, yarn, an idea of a pattern you’d like to use, scissors, a tapestry needle, and a comb to push the yarn down. Instructions for warping your own frame loom are pasted below:

Now, as discussed above, there are two main threads needed to create the fabric: warp threads and weft threads. Warp threads run vertically along the loom and are secured at the top and the bottom tightly so they can support the yarn woven through it. The weft thread is what you weave around and between the warp threads, horizontally, which creates the patterns and the designs. It’s important to know this terminology, as they are crucial as you weave your pattern.
Step 2:
Depending on the design you would like to do, you are going to use your tapestry needle to pull the yarn in an over-under pattern across your loom. Essentially, you are threading your tapestry needle with weft yarn. However, as you pull the thread, you want to make sure you are leaving it a little loose, do not pull too tight or it may distort the weave. Once you are through with this, use the comb to push the yarn down evenly.
Here, I took it upon myself to create a woven example of initials to show what it might look like if you did so on a frame loom. By looking at the orange blocks, we are able to tell that it would get woven over. For example, on the second row, we would go under the first string, then over the next 9 strings, and then under the last string. You would continue the over-under pattern until your initials were complete on your frame loom! For a better explanation, check out this YouTube video below:
